He is the next Magyar writer to receive the prize after the deceased Imre Kertesz, who received in 2002.

Born in 1954, László Krasznahorkai earned recognition in 1985 when he released Satantango, which he transformed for the movies in 1994.

Krasznahorkai's 2021 novel Herscht 07769 has been labeled as a significant present-day Deutsch story, because of its exactness in illustrating the land's social unrest just before the global health crisis.

It's a representation of a current small town in Thüringen, Deutschland, plagued by social anarchy, murder and arson.

"His employer, a Johann Sebastian Bach fanatic, is incensed that an individual is spraying canine emblems across the memorials to the renowned artist in their east German town."

One assessment noted it as "therefore grim from start to conclusion."

His most recent satirical work, "Zsömle Odavan", returns to the Hungarian setting.
