During a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Even with registering nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a two-point play in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes left.
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a possible victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," the coach commented following the game.
Rico Dowdle surpassed 200 yards from scrimmage for the consecutive week and first-year Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a 33-yard kick as time expired to secure the Carolina Panthers a 30-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams finished the first half with a goal-line stand and then signal-caller Matthew Stafford guided them to two scores to start the third quarter in their comfortable victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Daniel Jones threw two touchdown passes and Jonathan Taylor scored the go-ahead touchdown with 4:32 remaining, securing the Indianapolis Colts a close victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Sam Darnold passed for touchdown passes to his receiver and Cooper Kupp, and Seattle controlled both lines of scrimmage on their way to a comfortable win.
The veteran quarterback threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns, and the Pittsburgh Steelers experienced little trouble in their 23-9 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Justin Herbert evaded the defensive pressure and found with his receiver for a long catch-and-run in the closing seconds, leading to Cameron Dicker's game-winning field goal to secure the Los Angeles Chargers a narrow victory.
The quarterback passed for 261 yards and three touchdowns as the visiting New England Patriots defeated the New Orleans Saints 25-19.
